• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "1995 Trans Am" isn't going to indicate to anybody that you need help. However, "Need help with my 1995 Trans Am" will. Be as descriptive as you can. Please use common sense... I have a rebuilt 1966 TriPower. I say rebuilt rather than restored because it is not 100% stock. Here's what has been done. Disassembled and bead blasted the manifold and carbs. Chemical dipped all of the carb parts. The intake was shot blasted and then washed with soap and hot water. I painted the manifold with VHT primer and VHT "Pontiac Silver Blue." I then washed the carb parts in hot soapy water, painted the throttle bodies in VHT primer and VHT "Cast Iron." The air horns and fuel bowl bodies were painted with VHT Gray and then top coated with VHT satin clear. I sealed the end carbs throttle plates with DAG213. I assemble carbs using all new gaskets, inlet needles and seats, check balls and springs, methanol compliant accelerator pumps and springs and a new choke pull off and fuel lines. I installed new jets; #64 in center carb and #73 in end carbs. Float height set to 21/32" and float drop set to 1 24/32". I install a new thermostat and new block off plate. New progressive linkage was also installed.

The things that keep this set up from 100% originality are;

1. The center carb is a clone. It has been properly prepared with correct size jets, idle mixture holes have been enlarged to .060 and the idle pick up tubes have been enlarged to .038.
2. The original front and rear carbs had their air horns modified by the original owner by removing the center support that holds the air cleaner stud. An after market replacement piece has been installed.
3. The air filter assemblies consist of Wix air filters, ABS air filter bases and 3.5” x 1/8” aluminum tops.
4. The set up does not come with the choke stove or rod or the external fuel filter. The fuel filter bracket is included.

Please understand that a carburetor is a complex part and WILL need some final adjustments and fine tuning once it is installed on your vehicle. The jets, idle tubes and idle mixture screw orifices should be satisfactory for most 400/455 "mild" applications.
