Hi,
I am restoring a 67 Bird for a friend. I am new to Pontiac's, so could use a little help. The engine code is 079631-YN. It's a 350 stock bore, but would like to know the year (79?) and what it came with. This engine had a clearance problem with the driver side header. It was smashed it to clear the steering box. Any idea why the fitment problem? It has the 2 speed auto, and the owner wants to change to a Turbo 350. Where can I come up with the correct shifter, linkage, and shift plate to make the swap? It has the console shift. I appreciate any help. Mark

Obviously OEM restore is not an issue since there is a 350 dropped into the engine compartment.

If it were mine, I'd be looking at B&M shifters for the console.
Once the engine mounts are sorted out, I'd be looking for a better set of headers. I can't accept the possibility that there isn't a quality set of headers that will fit a 1967 Firebird with the 350 conversion.

Check Hedman.

Is there a way to tell if the mounts are correct? Seems like the engine is sitting to low, and that is maybe why the headers hit on the steering box. Any idea what year the engine is? It has 3 freeze plugs. Mark

What year engine

Did you go to the wallace racing link I provided above and didnt that have a casting number and engine code section to determine the year? If you are doing a restore and question the mounts just replace them, might want to try urethane.
