Engine is a Pontiac 400 Ram Air. Has an Edelbrock Thunder Series 650 carb, Edelbrock Performer Intake, HEI distributor with a vaccum advance and 8.8mm Taylor Cable Thundervolt wires. Engine was completely rebuilt. that means new pistons, rods, rings, timing chain and gears, oil pump, and so on. The cam may be what is doing this i think because of vacuum. it is and Edelbrock with a .470 lift and at 320 duration.
at first the timing was far out, but still ran and idled smooth, minus some popping at hi revs. we fixed the timing and now it is dead on. it sounds smoother than before but it has to idel in park at 1100 to stay running, but once i put it in gear it wants to stall to a stop, and sounds like a tractor when in gear.
i need serious help. and please..no comments saying "its a pontiac, there is your problem" or "its not a ford" thank you for any and all HELP.
everything in this motor is brand new. that includes the distributor
fuel is premium. tranny is a turbo 400, with a shift kit. i do not know about the stall speed it has right now
