Now i am not clueless, but I am having issues with the ignition switch on this vehicle. Originally, the only way the vehicle would stay running is if i held the key forward about 1/2 way into the crank position. If i let it go back on it's own to ignition, it would die. So, I figure the switch is culprit, because no amount of adjustment would solve the problem. Now, I purchased a new swich from Ames, and the vehicle will crank, but not run at all. In the ignition position, there is power only to the 2 brown wires out of the switch plug. I always thought pink was ignition? I am thinking i got a faulty switch, unless i am missing something. The vehicle has been retrofitted with an HEI setup, and I have always been on the assumption that with the key in ignition position, there should be voltage at the BAT+ terminal of the HEI, correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I need a switch diagram as well. Pics are included. thank you.

Pink should be ignition, they have two switches tilt and non-tilt did you get the correct switch? Is it possible to manually move the switch into the run and crank positions for testing?

I got the non tilt switch...it is correct. also, i have manually operated it. No ignition when in that position at the pink wire. It will crank but not fire, because there is no ignition power to the HEI.

sounds like a bad switch, does the old one do the same thing, no power at pink?

The old switch had to be help partway into the spring loaded crank position to stay running...if i let it return to ignition all on its own, it would die. no amount of adjustment made a difference.
