GM all,
Have been admiring firebirds all my life and finally pulled the trigger and bought a 69 convertible firebird last weekend. a LOT of work has already been done to it and I need to learn all about it, so I'm starting here.
first, I'm not much of a gearhead. I have basic tools and basic knowledge but I'm not the sort of guy that can replace an engine and transmission. I'm more of a spark plugs and oil type of guy. Is what it is. Anyway...

This bird, it has a NOM engine (not known what engine is in there, need to get the casting numbers off the block) and is a 4 speed.

My long ass winded question is..... My clutch engages at the very very top and I was wondering if there was an adjustment to lower where the clutch engages the gears. If this is a stupid question, don't flame out on me please as I'm a newbie... I'll have about 59 other questions to come so thanks in advance..
I'll see if this picture attaches

to ID the engine you need the code in front of the passenger side cylinder head on the block pad.
the clutch is adjusted under the hood with a pair of nuts on a threaded shaft. You should have about 1 1/2" of free play when stepping on the clutch before feeling resistance using your hand.

The Clutch is adjusted as melsg5 said, when I used to heads up drag race a car I would adjust the clutch as yours is, making for faster shifts.

But for a street driven car the clutch should be adjusted to a midrange position of the pedal travel, makes for a much more comfortable ride.

I have to readjust my clutch on my 69, it is the oposit of yours, and is not engaging until the last couple of inches of travel. I have just been to lazy to do it.
