Ok here goes. Have 69 trans-am with ram air 400. Not sure if distributor is in correct. Vac advance is now on passenger side with dwell window at firewall. Doesn't seem right. Help...advice. Whats correct?

Guess you dont want to say how it got that way? The simple explanation is you have to get the engine on #1 cylinder top dead center. Pull the distributor out and reinstall it correctly. If you need more details please ask.

It came to me that way. I know the correct way to do it, but was told by engine guy cam installed straight up. That's why I was asking. Wasn't sure if there was something special on these motors.

Not sure what the cam has to do with correctly installing a distributor, whether the cam is straight up or advanced or retarded the distributor goes in one way, would wonder if the engine guy knows what he is doing. The vacuum advance belongs on the drivers side and the window for access to the point adjustment is on passenger side angled towarded the front of the car. It's the same as a Chevy but with the vacuum on the opposite side. Distributor rotation is opposite direction than Chevy.

Like I said, I wasn't sure on these. Never messed with Pontiacs much. Just wanted to be sure. Thanks

No problem, if you are going to hold on to this car you may want to get a copy of the 1969 factory Chasis Service manual. Think it comes on CD these days.
