Well my first car is a 1972 pontiac firebird. me being the wrench i am cant stand keeping it the 2bbl 350 it ism ive also traded out the auto turbo 350 trans for a 4-speed muncie. so far ive found an OEM 4bbl manafold and a quadrajet carb to match. ive measured it out and the quad is the only one that will clear under the hood. being that the bolt pattern on the manifold is wide set.
Next ive recently found a set of heads off of a 1970 trans am HO, a guy was throwing them away.....
The stock HP of the firebird is around 190 to 200. what do you think i will gain from these upgrades?

you would be going from low compression heads to high compression plus the carb has to be worth 75hp

Yea i know that the carb will drastically help it, but is the combustion chamber reses in the head that much smaller in the 455 heads? Also what style of valve reses is there in the piston? ive yet to take the motor apart.

Also, how much would i gain from replacing the exhaust? I have a set of Doug thorly headers for it, im thinking about 2 3/4" exhaust. thats quite an upgrade from the 1 3/4" i think it is

why do you think a 70 trans am had a 455, it was a 400. pontiac compression was purely based on the combustion chamber cc, the pistons were all flat tops. I really doubt going that big on the exhaust would help on a 350. if you search the internet you will find sites giving you the specs. on the different heads and their volume in cc
