When I got my firebird a few years ago, most everything worked except for the radio. This summer, I am going to try to tackle that project.

I'm guessing that I won't only need to replace the head unit, but also the speakers and (hopefully not) any wiring. Has anyone ever done this before and how hard was it? I am trying to collect as much information before I start the project as I can. I have attache a picture of my car (for your enjoyment) and pictures of the head unit, if that will help in any way.

i would start with determining what the problem is rather than blindly replacing everything. Have you used a test light or voltmeter to see if you have a signal at the speakers? Have you tested the speaker output on the radio to see if there is a signal at that point? I assume you have checked for a blown fuse?

Nice car, I agree with melsg5 diagnose the problem. the speakers can be rebuilt same with the radio if it is defective. that is if you want a stock system.

I would really like to keep it stock, but unfortunately the radio stations around here are 90% ads, so I would like bluetooth/aux input compatibility.

It would probably be a good idea to check what the problem is first before I go ripping though out to my car ;). I just figured that having a completely new system would cause less issues.

Custom Autosound has new radios that fit your dash with no cutting. I just bought one for my 1965 Catalina and am able to get bluetooth. Sounds pretty good. It ran me a little over 300.00.
