I know nothing whatsoever about these cars, need some help, How rare is this car? does the shaker hood mean SD 455?

you need to look at the engine code stamped in front of the passenger side cylinder head on the engine block. It will be a letter code like CH, HFG, etc. The formula did not have a shaker hood, it had dual scoops on the hood.

This what I was told by the owner: the car was bought new (1 owner) as a formula with the SD 455 engine, the car does have the shaker hood, I never looked at the engine, but I will. Is this possible???

The shaker hood was on the trans am but the SD 455 was an option on the formula which may have necessitated the shaker hood. If he is the original owner ask to see the paper work proving his statement. In the absence of paper work you have to check the codes. If this is truely a Formula SD 455 it is a rare car.

Update: The car turned out to be a 1974 Formula Firebird, dark blue, white interior, 4 speed SD 455, as it turns out the car was well known back in the early 80s for cruising the local strip, its been sitting since the 80s. In the process of trying to pry the car lose from its owner.

Good luck and post more details as your mission progresses.
