1975 firebird

hi all! I recently bought a 1975 firebird esprit 4speed manual trans, the guy i bought it off of told me he thought the engine was a 400, the vin says it came with a 350. anyway my question is, how do i find out what engine it really is, like what block numbers i should look for and where.

In front of the passenger side cylinder head there is a pad on the block with a 2 or 3 character letter code, such as HYC or HY, etc. Go to this link after you find the code.
