Hello, i have just recently purchased a 1978 firebird 305 2 barrel 4 speed. And though i am not really trying to get a huge hp gain out of it, i was wondering just for the heck of it, what would the hp/tourque gain be if i put a 4 barrel on the 305 and got headers, 3 in full dual exhaust, and flowmaster american thunder mufflers. Also i would be getting rid of the catalytic converter, for whatever that is worth in hp/torque gain. Any guesses or experience is appreciated. Like i said im not really doing this for the hp but more for the sound... although it would be nice if it pumped out a few more hp's aswell. Thanks

a guess would be 50 to 75 HP. You should not put on a 3" exhaust, engine cubes are too small, stick with 2 1/2" at most.

Thanks for the advice. and do you know if a 4 barrel intake manifold from a 350 will fit on a 305? and if you know any other cheap ways to increase the power let me know!

A 305 is a chevy engine, a 350 could either be Pontiac or Chevy, so Chevy 350 will fit on a Chevy 305. Another performance mod would be to change the distribtutor advance curve. Moroso, Accel, etc. all make kits consisting of springs, weights and bushing. If you go that route and need help let me know.

Alright, thanks for the help again. The 350 is a chevy. I think im going to try to make it put out a bit more hp because 140 is pretty weak. But i dont have the money for a full engine upgrade yet. Eventually I plan to put a 350 in it but for now I just want to make it sound nice and put out a bit more hp and tourque. I'll let you know if I need any help. I'm kind of new to Pontiacs as you can probaly tell haha. But I do love my new purchase!
