Hello.
I'm thinking of buying a "claimed" one owner all original 78 Formula. It's got the olds 403. I'm familiar with the fact that some had them and some didn't but I'm far from an expert so I don't really know all of the ins and outs yet.

My question is regarding the fact that this one is actually badged on the air cleaner as being a 403. I've never seen that and can't find other images online of another car with the same decal. It's throwing me because the car really looks very original and well kept, but so far I've only seen pictures. The car was sold new in California if that makes any difference. I know CA models can sometimes be odd.
Any help is appreciated

look at the 5th digit of the VIN, a 403 would be the letter "K". Feel free to ask any other questions on your prospective purchase.

77 Cutlass and 442 only got that decal, can be bought online in silver or gold.

Engine should have 403 cast into the side of the block by the freeze plugs.

78 Formula's with 403's were only sold in California.7th digit in the Vin should be a "L" ( Van
Nuys California Plant) if built in California.
