i drive a 1978 firebird, i just recently hit a rock that tore a nasty hole it what i think is the transmission pan, i believe this because all the red fluid was draining out and i couldnt park it or i would step on the gas and it would just rev up. whats wrong am i right? how much do fix it in a shop/myself?

Sounds like you have ripped a hole in the transmission pan.You should be able to get a new pan for the transmission and replace the filter and gasket at the same time. The pan could cost from $35 -$75 and the filter kit and fluid will cost about $50. You could do this yourself and save the $100 that a shop would charge in labor... plus you would not have to pay the tow bill to get it there..

Good luck with your repair.

You have no fluid in it. Replace pan, add enough fluid, your good to go. Can't tell you how much fluid, Cuz I don't know how much you lost.
