currently restoring a 1980 trans am and am looking at putting in a 455 olds. was looking into putting a 700r4 behind it. wondering if anyone that has done this has any "i wish i would of know this first" information about it.

since you are not concerned about it being a real Pontiac engine, why not a Chevy 454 or larger?

The tranny will need: Hardened sunshell, shift kit, and a vette servo at the least.

well while killing time over here in iraq i stumbled across using a gear vendors overdrive unit for the th350 i already have, anyone know if it would be worth the money 2500 for the kit i would need

you still would have to throw more money into the th350 to beef it up, have you considered going with a 5 or 6 speed manual from Richmond Gear?

i hanvt looked to much into a manual transmissions since it was an auto to begin with and dont want to change the interior to make it work for a manual

In my opinion, for $2500 you can build a very stout tranny. Go with the 700r, the overdrive is worth it.
