Hi, as you guys can see I am new to these forums and I hope I can "truly" become a part of the forums once I obtain an '83 Trans Am Recaro Edition.

Luckily I know someone who has one and is thinking of selling it to me. She was the only owner of the car and it has approximately 100,000 kms (62500 miles). Everything is original and allegedly the engine (305 Cross Fire fuel injected) starts up and runs fine.

My only concern is that the car has been sitting in a garage for many years and 2 years ago, the de-humidifier in her garage went out and small spots (of mold?) grew on the dash, seats and door panels.

She got the de-humidifier running again and it doesn’t seem that the mold spread/grew. I wiped the steering wheel one day and the mold came off easily (as if it was dust).

Is the car worth buying and getting rid of the mold? I heard that stuff can seriously affect our health if we are exposed to it which is what worries me.

Just like with homes the mold controversy is overblown. There is mold constantly in the air we breath and has always been there. It is only certain types that cause health issues and it has to be present in hugh amounts which is not the case based on your description. I cannt tell you if it's worth buying without knowing the asking price. You can go to www.nada.com, click on consumer, click on classic cars and try looking it up yourself. Good luck.

my opinion is every thing can be cleaned...just got to figure out how much work are you willing to do, to obtain the ride you want...if you like and want the car what are you will to do and pay for it, as long as you're happy...

They are both correct. The mold deal is way overblown, and i can think of a whole of things harder to clean. Look up the value and deduct like 6 hrs of labor to throughly clean it. What's the asking price? any rust?? Do you have pics?
