Hey guys I just got a 84 fiero gt it was my dads and he let it sit for 12 years then gave it too me for free it needs all new brake lines and a new clutch (the big job) and the engines currently seized. I'm 17 and took it on more so for a project car I want to make this engine useable if possible just for now, I want to do a v6 or v8 swap eventually I've been dumping ATF and wd 40 in it a lot any other suggestions? I want to keep the 4 cylinder because when he put it on the dyno it was running 210 hp (apparently) he put a performance chip in it and performance tuned it (some other stuff) anyways do you think the engine can be brought back? Btw the frames fine none of the wheels were seized when we moved it so that's a good sign... Thanks for any replys

It is not a GT. They did not make GT's in 1984 and all GT's came with a V-6.
Depending on what seized the engine will determine if it can be brought back. Since it needs a clutch anyways, Why not drop the entire cradle and pull the engine too. You can inspect the cylinders, cam, crank and bearings then replace what is bad. The Fiero Store ( www.fierostore.com ) sells an overhaul kit.

Description from website:
"Sealed Power engine kits provide all the necessary parts to completely rebuild your engine. Up-grade Hyperutectic pistons and Moly rings will increase power and performance. Kit includes: Pistons, Rings, Cam and Lifters, timing set, oil pump, all bearings (cam, rod, main), complete gasket and seal set, freeze plugs and new oil galley plugs. Please call to specify what size pistons/rings and bearings your engine requires."

You can also get the new clutch and any other parts you may need to restore it.

Big project

Firefingers why are you dumping Automatic Transmission Fluid into the engine? I have not heard of this is it to loosen rusted parts or something. You say you need to replace your clutch and manual transmissions don't take ATF. It is just a question.

I agree with Oreif you need to drop the cradle and take the engine apart to find out why it locked up. Also what 4 cylinder engine is it? It doesn't sound like an Iron Duke, not without some add ons. Don't forget to check the block and head for cracks and warpage.

I don't believe you can hit 210 horsepower with the duke? As for seized, have you tried to hand crank it loose, could be bit rusty and needs to be broken loose.

Not a big fan of engine swaps, but if the engine is seized, and you want this car to be a project, it might be cheaper to get a V6 or V8 from a donor car in a boneyard rather than try to bring the L4 back to life--and easier. First, do some research; there's plenty to skim through here and elsewhere.
