1984 Pontiac fiero radio question!?

Me and my father-in-law are pulling out his daughters fiero out of storage after 2 years since she passed. We are going to clean it up and fix it up so me and my wife can use it as our vehicle. One question I have, if anyone will be able to answer it, is that the radio goes in and out in it. It is still the stock radio that is installed. I have my stock radio/cd player from my '97 grand prix when I put in a new deck and was wondering if it will be possible to install it into the fiero? I am aware that there might be some rewiring and a need for a conversion cable between the present line and the line needed for the grand prix deck, but will this be possible? also, it tended to "short out" and required carrie to hit the radio, then it would kick back on. could this short be just with the radio itself or will it be a internal problem further within the car?

Yes, You can use a newer radio. There are a few places that sell adapter cables.

The short out isn't a short but rather a cracked solder joint in the radio. It was common on the older stereo's. So installing the newer one will solve that problem.
