I was just given an 86' Firebird from a buddy of mine but it has an engine problem. It will intermittently shut down for no apparent reason. I put a new battery in it, started it and drove it home 12 miles. It ran perfect. I parked it in the garage and went to start it this morning and it wouldn't start. My bro-inlaw read through the Chilton's manual that came with it and did a check on the ignition coil and it tested bad. We put a new coil in it and still won't start. This car is absolutely immaculate and has 49K original miles. Literally owned by a little old lady who passed away and gave it to her grandson who then gave it to me. Anyone have any ideas. Keep in mind, everything is original and everything is stock. 2.8 liter V6. Any help would be definitely appreciated.

You might got a bad coil. Did you hook the wires back up to the coil. I always use contact cleaner on the wires before I hook them up. Plus I would disconnect the battery when you changing anything electrical on a car. Sounds like it did have a bad coil before.

I did replace the coil and still nothing. I am now thinking ignition module. The coil tested bad with the original in, but I replaced it and still zippo. Any other ideas?

Before you replace the ignition module you need to check and see if your getting fire to the plugs.
