1987 Pontiac Fiero HELP/ADVICE

I have the opportunity to buy a 1987 Pontiac Fiero from a friend of mine. It only has 78k original miles. It needs a few trim pieces on the outside and a little interior work but nothing major. The e-brake doesn't work. It needs new struts too I believe. The RPM gauge works sometimes then other times it doesn't. The gas gauge doesn't work either. He wants $1700.00 for it.

I need some advice about these cars. Pros? Cons? Are these issues minor? How easy is it to find parts? Are they extremely hard to work on? Is the price ok? etc.

Please give me as much advice as you can. Thanks a million!

It is a 24 year old car. With that being said, They are not bad to work on. Chances are the tach (RPM gauge) problem is just the tach filter is going bad. (cheap and easy fix). The gas gauge could be the connection at the dash or the sensor itself. The sensors are expensive, but there are websites on how to refinish them yourself.

As for parts, Places like The Fiero Store, The Fiero Factory in Alabama, as well as a few others have all the parts to replair/replace what goes bad.

As for value, Is it a 4-cyl or V-6? What options? 78K on a 1987 isn't a bad price depending on it's overall condition.
