Just purchased a 1988 Firebird Formula (350 TPI), everything stock.

Tranny waits to shift into 2nd in low RPMs, lurching hard into gear. If you run a little hard off the line, it shifts into gear fine. Had the tranny serviced today (tranny fluid and rear diff), made it a little better but not as it should be. Buddy of mine mentioned maybe it has a shift kit installed.

How can I tell? If there is one, is it easy (and advisable) to remove? I'm not very familiar with trannys.

When they service the tranny did they replace all the filters with the flush. My first thought was a shift kit too. Mabee prevoius owner rodded the car might have damaged sychros in tranny. you might try a new shift kit. Good luck.

Is the tv cable adjusted right? If it isn't, it will cause funny shifts and tear up the tranny. A shift kit would make it shift hard under heavy throttle.
