Thought I'd write this since I got one.
Pros
easy dis-assembly of engine (head and cam)
good gas mileage (23 city 30 hwy)
comfortable seats
pretty good power for a 4 banger (going up hills etc)
back seat room (sedan)
solid body (its a tank if you plan on wrecking it ie demo car)
Cons
Head gasket will blow in front of the 4th piston (common)
Seat bolts loosen with time
accessory components are tight to work on (ie water pump, alternator, etc)
metal body (speed and power suffer from heavy body)
trunk springs will most likely break
Overall
My impression of the car is that it is a solidly constructed and reliable car. It will start and go but do not expect any performance from this engine. GM made turbo models of this car and even those are on the slow side. The look of the car is actually appealing especially the front end. The ride is a comfortable one and you could travel long distances in this car without too many breaks. The stock radio needs updating as is done in mine.
These make great cars for anyone who is wanting to get from point A to point B with reliability. The engine was manufactured to last and as long as you know what you are doing it will last.
Although mine is pulled apart for the necessary head gasket replacement she never died. She always started and would run. There is no way after the repair that I will ever sell this car due to its reliability. She will probably get passed to one of my kids when they first learn to drive.
Mine is a 25 year old car with a salvage title and she still runs and the car only had 3 minor recalls in that 25 years if that tells you anything. But as I said not a car to show off for its beauty or its performance. It's a car that you would simply say "well she refuses to die"
