hi guys,
i'm pretty new here so let me start by apollogizing for any bad spelling as english is not my first language.
I recently bought two third gen pontiacs. one from 1991 and one from 1992 both with a v6 injection engine. I think the engine contains 3.1 liter.
initially both ran fine.
Now here is the problem.
when I drove the first one for about 30km it began shutting down when I stood still in front of traffic lights. Now everytime when the car is parked or just runnign stationary, it shuts down unless I hit the gas pedal to give it more power.
It shuts down more easily when its in drive or reverse, but it also shuts down when in neutral or park.
Before it stalls the engine runs very irregular and floats between 1000 rpm and 500 rpm.
However sometimes when its stationary, the engine has the tendency to give 1200 rpm and easily rise to 2000 rpm.
when your up to speed however, the engine runs perfectly and no irregularities. apart from a very peculiar tendency to drop in power once in a while.
Here is what Ive already done.
Ive changed filters, sparkplugs and several cables. ive scanned the computer with an obd (on-board diagnostics) scanner. which led to the conclusion that the fuelpump had to be changed. so I changed the fuelpump which obviously didnt help in any way.
now both pontiacs have these problems.
