1991 firebird security light wont come on to start car.?

I have a 1991 firebird. It has a security light that must come on before you can push the starter button under the dash however it will only come on once ever few 100 trys. i am selling it and need to get it running asap with out spending very much money as i dont have it. What could i possibly do to get this light to come on and what is wrong with it?

Since what you are describing is not a factory installation you may have trouble getting an answer without further information about your "security system".

bypass the security system !! HAD THIS PROB !

open up your wiring harness in the area closest to your master cylender look for a wire (i think purple trying to remember )that has been cut and new wires spliced onto it . Disconnect those wires , and splice the wire back together . your security system is now disabled !! On another Firebird I only had to tap the sensor under the hood .
Sometimes they get stuck !! VERY COMMON !!
