why is my loving 92 grand am throwing gas out of the muffler, replaced fuel pump, filters, battery this car is amigraine, could the heads be gone

could you be more specific, raw gas cannt go out the muffler. What exactly is the problem and do you have a check engine light on?

Thats what i thought to,but my husband says it was gas, weve replaced the fuel pump and the filters, battery,it tries to start then backfires,im thinking that its water coming out of the muffler not gas,and since its backfired a couple of times thats why it smells like that.Could it possibly be the module,or coil, spark plugs? When you turn the key you can hear the fuel pump.confused with this car only have had it 6 to 8 months and nothing but money. Thanks for any advice help i can get:confused: I almost forgot the check engine light has never turned on.

You are correct it's water coming out of the pipe. Has a professional mechanic worked on it or is your husband just throwing parts at it hoping to fix it? It does sound ignition related, how many miles on the plugs? It could be the plug wires or the modules, all these things have to be tested before just replacing them.

 well we got this car about 6 to 8 months ago from A MECHANIC,(supposed) he was suppose to rebuild our transmission on my 88 astro van, another story..My husband has well just actually thinking at first the fuel pump but we have had this problem of the car taking about 4 or 5 times before it cranks over, every so often when driving at 60 to 75 mph the damn thing would just cut out completly no lights ,power at all,it would start up after a couple of tries put back to drive and continue on,however thinking now when you have the key in the ignition if its on and you got to turn the car off ,if moving the key just a tiny bit it will turn off, meaning that the key is still in the on position.I believe we are getting a mechanic to come out this weekend or Monday to get it.I will let you know.We have replaced the harmonic balancer, alternator, water pump, plugs wires, thermostate, flushed out the radio,2 batteries, and a big migraine headache to go along with it,if its not a big problem to fix i will but if its going to cost me alot of money,?????? thankyou Brenda

based on your last description I would suspect you have a bad ignition switch

re- engine malfunction

Soundly determine if it water or gas coming out the tailpipe. The backfiring could be caused by raw fuel being dumped into the exaust system. You could have more then one stuck open fuel injectors. A fuel pressure gauge is simply installed to check the fuel pressure. Many internal combution engines will expell water from the tailpipe, more so when the engine is warming up. You need to give more specific information on how the engine is performing.

I can only explain this about my loving car. When it does run it runs pretty good,as relaying the suggestions or advice I have gotten on her to my husband,i asked him about the fuel injectors, hes a fairly good mechanic accept fpr our vehicles,He TOLD ME THAT HE MOVED 2 OF THE INJECTORS:eek: AND CANNOT REMEBER WHICH WAY!!!!!!! DONT KNOW WHY AND DIDNT ASK HIM.So now how does it get corrected?I do appreciate everyyones help

Before i answer the question about how my car runs,i need to know how you get the fuel injectors to the original position, for some odd reason he moved 2 of them.????????????
not sure which is more of a headache to me right now.....

why do you have to move them back? they are all the same

They dont need to be matched to a cylinder. You would move them back the same way thet were moved in the first place. When installing them you should use new o rings.

so it doesnt matter if they get moved??Ill let you know whats going on in a few days.Thankyou

No it sure wasnt we have had problems with this car from the start,A so called Mechanic couldnt get our van fixed right so he gave me this car ,which turned out costing us more money everytime it broke.
