1992 Gta trans am

Hi guys I need some help I have a 1992 yellow GTA firebird trans am 197000 miles and every other time a try starting it,it doesnt crank I have power everything turns on but it doesnt want to crank i wait about 30 min and then it starts idk what it could be i took it to the mechanic and he replaced my steerring column

could just be a bad battery connection or starter.

check the connections at the battery and starter plus other grounds. then test for power at the starter while someone turns the key.

I agree with EaOutLaw on what to check but why would your mechanic replace the complete steering column for a no start condition, that doesn't make sense?
