1994 PONTIAC Firebird High Idle problem?

My car has a relatively High Idle. initial start up idle is already over 1k rpms. After a short time (under 5 mins) the cars idle has worked up. When the car is in motion with the clutch pressed in the idle can be at 2200 rpms and will then drop to 1700 and go back up to 2000 and repeat this until I come to a full stop where the car will reside at 1500 rpms.

sounds like a vacuum leak, lift the hood and crank the car up, then listen for any "sucking" sound.

If your car still uses carburetor then have a mechanic check out the vacuum on it. I had similar prob. long time ago and that was the prob. leaky hose, replaced and no more trouble.
