Hello All,

Just recently purchased a 1995 Grand Am GT and have driven it for 2 weeks without a problem.

Today I drove it for about 40 miles, parked it and realized it was blowing antifreeze out the over flow. Waited about an hour, started it back up and drove it to my local parts store.

Bought some anti-freeze and freon for the a/c. Diagnosed problem as thermostat and headed back toward parts store, car overheats, thermostat kicks, cools down and engine shuts off.

Pull into convenience store engine turns over but one piston is 'dieseling' and misfiring. Call tow truck, go to start car after it was towed, battery charged, engine doesn't turn over.

Going to manually check flywheel and see if engine is seized, if it is not, any suggestions to repair would be helpful.

Regards and Take Care,

95 Grand Am GT

some of what you are saying is unclear, .... headed back toward parts store, thermostat kicks? one piston is dieseling ? remove the spark plugs and see if the engine turns over with the starter. Check the oil filler cap for a brownish sludge. Perform a compression test.

Sorry,

I left parts store thinking it was fine, then realize the problem was the thermostat, not low coolant, on the way back to the parts store my engine dies.

Removed spark plugs and am checking to see if engine turns over now.

How do I perform a compression test?

Thank you for reply.

Removed spark plugs then tried to start it and starter just started smoking, next step I am going to try and manually turn the crank shaft. I heard PB Blaster would be useful to pour down the cylinders, is this true for an overheated car?

Thank you in advance for any help.
