1996 grand am 3.1 liter

Hi I am new to the forum here and would appreciate some answers as for what could be wrong with my 1996 grand am se 3.1 engine.
The heater ac fan works when it wants to it seems.When it does work all speeds are there and when it quits working on all speeds it is generally after the car has been shut off and go to restart car again there will be no fan speeds again. Then you can be driving along maybe 10 mins to whenever and fan will work again till next time.Also is the fan located on the firewall of this model and year or is it under the glove box?I see a fan on the passenger firewall but not sure if thats for the heater?

I am not going to pretend like I know your engine compartment or your fan location, however, if you see one on the firewqall I'm going to say it's a pretty safe bet to guess that that's the one your looking for. I will tell you though that it sounds like a wiring issue. check the relay and see if it's corroded or loose. I know you can go purchase a manual for these cars for about 20-40 bucks depending on the quality of manual (I'd pay more now for a manual then pay in headaches later trying to disifer a cheaply put together one.) check the relay schematics and that should help you to follow it and possibly find the root of the problem.
