1996 Sunfire Timing Belt

I have a 1996 Sunfire with about 116,000 on it. I purchased it about 4 years ago and have put over 40,000 miles on it. I doubt the timing belt has ever been done and I was wondering if anyone knows how long it would be safe to wait? Any idea of the approximate price for a mechanic to do this?

It doesnt have a belt it uses a chain with a tensioner. Do you hear any unusual noise from the front of the engine?
