1997 Firebird 3.8 V6 - Parts Advice

Hello all,

My Firebird base coupe is in need of a couple of parts to get through it's MOT here (UK owner).

It's a bone stock 1997 V6 3.8L manual 5-speed with the two-piece propshaft and standard rear running gear/diff etc.

I'm looking replace the transmission-to-shaft oil seal and the shaft-to-differential oil seal. I'm using Rock Auto for the parts, and I have a friend doing the work as I don't have a lift.

Looking through their selection of seals for the 3.8 there are a few different types of each, and I'm having trouble finding the correct parts. Can anyone please help me identify the correct oil seals I need to replace from their parts list for a completely stock car? They've not been pulled yet but as I'm in the UK I want to make sure I order the correct ones.

When in doubt about a specific part I like to use an exploded view diagram with OEM part numbers which can be found from online OEM parts distributors or online dealership parts departments. Once you have spotted the correct part and original OEM part # you can then go to a third party parts distributor like rockauto and switch to their "parts number search" tab to cross into aftermarket and OEM parts available.

Your driveshaft to differential pinion seal is # 26026792

If you have the 5 speed manual transmission double check but it should be the Borg-Warner T5WC and the output shaft seal kit is # AC Delco 5200 (alternative #19340217)

Thank you all for your prompt help, I appreciate it very much! I didn't know they had a custom service melsg5 but I will look into that (I figured I could perhaps email them or something).

I believe from some digging I've done as suggested (found a few helpful diagrams online) that I do indeed have the T5 World Class transmission, and so I'll take that onboard also when ordering.

I'll let you all know how it goes. Can't wait to get the car back on the road, even if winter is just around the corner. Very grateful!
