1997 pontiac sunfire gt, need help making more powerful

Hi, my name is Aaron. Ive owned my pontiac sunfire since November 2013. Since I got my car I've been madly obsessed with it. Ive spent months trying to figure out how to make it more powerful (in between needed repairs lol). Being a sunfire gt it has the 2.4 liter engine in it. I would greatly appreciate if anyone could make suggestions on engine part replacements and what should be replaced with what.

Modifications are based on your budget. Start with a CAI and a Cat back exhaust system.

I wouldn't really dabble with a traditional CAI though, there's a particular one for sale on Andy's Auto Sport that mounts up over the dust cover in the wheel well and you won't be pulling in any hot engine air

Start small and put things on one ata time and give yourself a chance to get used to the new power. I put an aem CAI on my stock LS and I like it so I held of on the header and the jet performance chip.

At the moment im replacing parts as and before they go bad on my car so that i can keep it. Thanks to the help from those who have helped me and some outside sources I think my first upgrade will be a performance exhaust since mine needs one anyways. Any reccomendations on brands?
