We finally just got the car running after being broken down for two weeks. Put in a new fuel pump, coil packs, spark plugs, and spark plug boots. Car was running good, when it started but would take two cycles to start everytime regardless of engine temp.

We got the CEL scanned at Autozone, it came up with 4 codes....

P0342 - Cam Sensor
P0171 - Oxygen Sensor? Fuel Injector? Even though the injectors all tested ok and spray good.
P0107 - MAP Sensor
P0300 - Misfire

Now the car is sitting in the Walmart parking lot since it either would not start or start up then stall. What do you guys think could be the culprit? Maybe a MAP sensor?

If it is the MAP sensor, do you recommend cleaning it to see if it solves the problem until I can buy a new one? If so, what should I clean it with?

The biggest problem with the MAP sensors on those is the little vacuum hose that connects it to the intake goes soft and collapses under vacuum. try replacing just the hose first, and see what happens. Also, the camshaft sensor needs to be looked at hard as well since it and the MAP sensor are the two main problems from the symptoms you describe.

If it's the CPS and the MAP sensors then would it be more likely to start up and run when the engine is cold rather then hot? Cause last night when it wouldn't start, the engine was hot/warm but this morning we drove over to the Walmart parking lot to get the car, the car took a while to start but I was able to drive it to my fiance's sister's house (Engine being cold). And while driving it over, it ran fine, except for the fact that I had to give it some gas when starting it to keep it from stalling.

Also, for some reason my fiance is thinking it's a vacuum leak. But I read online that it's very unlikely that a vacuum leak will cause a car to not start or hard starting, but I'm still leaning towards the MAP sensor, and I'll also be buying a CPS as soon as I can get to AutoZone. One of the receipts we got from AutoZone for the CEL's, it said something about an oxygen sensor (Don't remember if it said down or upstream), can a faulty MAP or CPS set a code for an oxygen sensor?

A faulty MAP sensor can cause the air fuel ratio to be out of whack, and a lean or rich condition can trigger a O2 code if the O2 sensors reading is out far enough that the ECM can't compensate fuel trims for it. Here is a little more about MAP sensors. Note, the one in the picture might be different from the one you have, but they all function the same.

I found an auction on eBay that included a Camshaft Position Sensor, Crankshaft Position Sensor, Knock Sensor, and a Oxygen Sensor so I bought it. And I also ordered a new MAP sensor and a Throttle Position Sensor. Probably over-kill but better safe then sorry. Only cost me 52.91.

Not a bad deal. I hope it works out for you. Let us know if it solves your problem.

I just received the Crankshaft Position Sensor, Camshaft Position Sensor, Knock Sensor, And Oxygen Sensor in the mail. My question is, since they are used, do I need to replace the O-rings on the Crankshaft and Camshaft sensors? Or should they be ok as long as they look intact?

Put on the new camshaft position sensor, throttle position sensor, and MAP sensor and now the car starts, and idles good, even though it idles a little high. Around 1500RPM but goes down to 1k after idling for a bit.

The car still takes a little while while cranking it, but I think it's because I couldn't get the crankshaft position sensor off in order to replace it. Or it might need a new fuel pump assembly.

If it is due to the crankshaft position sensor, will it cause any damage to other parts if I don't replace it right away? Cause it's a PITA to get to. Gotta take off the oil filter just to see it, then you can't even see the bolt in order to remove it, gotta do it all by touch. And the sensor is located right next to the starter so I have little to no room.

threw body fuel pump connector junk

changed 4 fuel pumps to find out the connector is bad i would wiggle push it and the car would start.
