Hello, I need some pointers on Y87 V6 optioned Firebird identification (1998- 2002)-is there an easy way to tell a Y87 package from a standard V6 Firebird? I see them online for sale but I can't tell if they have the package. Is a V6 with dual exhaust a Y87? Is it in the door code? Thanks for any information!

Externally the only thing you see are the dual exhaust tips. You need to see a dealer invoice, window sticker, etc. or the service parts label showing all the options.

Y87 3800 V6 Performance Package
The Y87 3800 V6 Performance Package upgraded the vehicle with Auburn limited slip differential (same differential used on V8 models), 11.4" single-piston caliper rear disc brakes (same rear brakes as V8 models), a dual outlet muffler, a quicker 14.4:1steering ratio (same ratio as V8 models), 235/55-16 tires. The Y87 package also gave automatic cars 3.42 rear gears, where as the manual cars kept the 3.23 rear gears.

On my Old 1997 the only external differance was the duel outlet exhaust, & the rear disc brakes. It was a fun car.

The y87 code should be on the door jamb that’s the only definate way of knowing. Most of the upgrades are internal (lsd, t/a steering, 3.42 gears for auto transmission)
