I had to remove my rear taillights to clean out some condensation and change the bulbs, but now that I have them back in, there is a 1" gap between the rear edge of the deck and the top of the lights.

This isn't normal is it? I can't remember if this is the way it was before, I would think this is a water intrusion nighmare if it is.

The gap at the top is what I'm concerned with, if rain comes down past the spoiler, it would land right on top of the lights. Doesn't seem normal, and if it is, not the best design.

yes, looks the same, so maybe my problem is the hatch not closing, although the more it closes, the bigger that gap will become.

with your hatch closed, based on the picture you posed, should you be able to get your fingers between the top lip of the light (touching the glossy area) and the sheetmetal from the hatch?

I can, just seems odd
