1998 Pontiac grand am question?

How do you reset the timing chain?My dad replace the water pump and didn't remove the timing chain and it jumped time.Its a 1998 Pontiac Grand Am with the 2.4L twin cam.Where do the timing marks point and what all has to be removed to get to the timing chain?Also I've been told I need a gasket to do this and I've also been told I don't.Which is it?

The 2.4 twin cam should have a chain tensioner, you need to have a service manual to refer to on how to get it back into time ..
but be aware if it jumped time while cranking it may have damaged the valves..
I would suggest taking it to a service tech to have it diagnoised and repaired
before you make it worse than it allready may be ..
