...problem.? I have a 1998 Pontiac Montana van. It runs fine, but it constantly senses low traction. This kicks the cruise control off and causes a judder in the drive train. In order to correct it you must change the accelerator position. (ie. more power or less power)

Can I disable the traction control mechanism somehow? How does the Montana detect low traction? Any idea on what might correctly fix such a problem?

Thanx...
Yeah Trevor, the tires are fine, and when this occurs, there is definitely no traction issue.

Checking the codes is a good piece of advice. I will do that. Thanx...
There is no ABS problem.

From a mechanics view first, Here is a list of things to check for.

1. Tires. Are they bald or feathering? This may cause a lose in traction.

2. Take it to a AutoZone, O'Reillys, or a Adavanved Auto Parts, and have them check to see if it is throwing a code.

The wheel speed sensor is a common issue also. It will throw a code at least 1989 and newer will.
