recently bought this sunfire, the lady said she took it to a mechanic who said it needed a new sensor (didn't tell her which one) they cleaned it off and ran for a couple of months. we took the battery out and put it on a battery charger, the car will power on the engine will try to start but wont turn over, it also doesn't sound like the fuel pump is working, does anyone know what sensor might need replaced? or have any other ideas as to what is wrong?

Need a new sensor they tell you. Well here what the don't tell you. The car has a smart instrument cluster and all sensors, relays ,communication with both computers and other imputs must feed into the cluster. If It doesn't get a singel from any of the imputs it won't alow the car to start. If your security light is blinking and you try to stat it, it will give a comand to the fuel controll to shut down. The car will seem to start but cuts off. this is a problem with these cars that nobody likes to deal with. It becomes too involved. I am a mechanic and I'v been chaseing wires for a month on my sons 1999 sunfire gt. Gm doesn't make the clusters any more. they get sent out to a repair shop. Try to get the car dignosed by a auto store, they do it for free. they can give you an idea which sensor is bad. Hopefully you'll get lucky
