grand am? i bought a 1998 pontiac grand am and it has 177 000 on it. i bought it for 1590.00 How reliable is my vehicle without dying on me

With that many miles its hard to say. I've had a couple and have had nothing but problems. They're known for bad head gaskets, lower intake manifolds, wheel bearings and power window motor failure. Just keep checking the oil and coolant and be easy on it.

I`M a auto glass installer. What I know Of these vehicle is as follows:
- buy a can of wet silicone spray, and spray up and down your window channels once a month. This will decrease the chance of your regulator that powers your windows from burning out. While your at it use that spray on your door and trunk seals it helps keep them soft and moist, prevent them from shrinking.
- Be aware that the rear defogger tabs have a habit of falling off. No real preventive maintenance there sorry.
- just under the drivers side cowell at the bottom of the windshied there is air return vent. Some times the cowell warps from the sun and releases the seal between glass and cowell. This will cause water to roll straight into this vent , the water will flow through the vent and will accumulate water on your passenger floor. ---- remedy is to tape of glass and cowell and use a thin silicone bead or replace the cowell.

It will go until the transmission fails unless the transmission was replaced by the prior owner. It may not have a transmission dipstick, but if it does, remove the dipstick and if the transmission fluid is dark brown, it's days might be numbered. New transmission fluid is bright pink in color and the fluid should always be changed regularly at 50,000 mile intervals to keep it looking bright pink. You could have the fluid drained (NOT flushed) if it's dark brown and have the filter replaced.
