1998 trans sport montana

I have a 1998 montana and it starts in second gear everytime. Is it a sensor or is the transmission bad? It drives good in other gears just no first gear.

Are you talking about a manual or automatic transmission? I will assume automatic, how do you know it is starting in second?

Yes it is an auto. I know it starts in second because I count the shifts and it has poor acceleration i can definitly tell its starting in second, even if i drop the shifter in to 1 there is no change. Engine runs perfect 260,000 miles. When its in reverse it has plenty of power so i assume i dont have 1st

What color is the tranny fluid ? Have you ever had the tranny fluid/filter changed ? Is this the original tranny ? That is alot of miles for a tranny but I have herd of them lasting longer.

If you place the shifter in 1 when stationary and then start driving and shift to 2, do you hear any change in the engine sound?
