Hi guys im new to this site and new to the pontiac world. Well i got a 99 grand am v6 and it cranks but wont turn over.it has 140,000 miles on it service engine soon light comes and goes every few days and the spark plugs and coil pack is 3 years old. I got it started yesterday afternoon then last night trying to start it was a no go ....help !!!

well you need to have the code scanned to start with but meanwhile do you hear the fuel pump kick on when you place the key in the run position? Have you checked for spark at the plugs?

No matter how complicated our gasoline engines appear with all the smog devices and computer control, they still need the three basic elements to run;

1. Ignition (spark)
2. Fuel/air
3. Compression

As mel said, listen for the fuel pump when you turn the ignition to the run position. That will let you know that the pump is running but doesn't guarantee that fuel is getting to the engine. You should also check fuel pressure at the fuel rail.

Also check your vacuum lines for leaks.

Ok thanx guys ill check the fuel pump tonight see if it comes on... Ill let you know...
