I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand AM that surges(that is it kind of putters or maybe slips?) going from first to second gear. The only issue the car has is coming from a complete stop and staying at around 10-15 mph, once it gets above this it drives and shifts very smooth. I was told this is because of the torque converter switch. I was also told that this has been driven like this for over a year. Does this sound accurate, and what is the severity of this problem. I have been told everything from leave it alone it will be fine to it has likely fudged up the transmission already.
Specs: 1999 Pontiac grand am, 175k miles, 2 door v6(135k on newer motor), with regular oil changes.
