1999 Pontiac Grand AM won't start unless I turn key to "on" and let fuel build up....
...Then is still hard to start? My 99 Grand Am will not start unless I turn the key to the on position, wait at least 30 seconds and then try starting it. Even after doing that I have to hold the key over in the cranking position for a while until it finally fires up. When it fires up the engine shakes until it settles. Any idea what could cause this? The check engine light is on but the only code I get is a bad downstream oxygen sensor. No one seems to think the O2 sensor could cause this problem though. A few months ago I had a guy to replace my fuel tank and pump, but I didn't know him and I think he scammed me by keeping my new parts and "pretending" to fix my car. Could these problems i'm having be caused by anything other than the fuel pump? For example could it be the O2 sensor, the fuel tank pressure sensor or the fuel injector pressure regulator? Thanks for the help!
