1999 Pontiac Grand Am?

When I bought my car they told me the drivers window did not work. It is being held up by a wooden stick inside the door panel. But when I press the switch, there is a sound and it sounds like the window is going up and down, but it is not moving. Is it off the track or something else?

sounds like there is a wood stick holding it up, the glass part that is.
what happened is the glass separated from the mechanical part that lifts/lowers the glass which could be off the track or might not but still moving up and down.
