has anyone improved there 2.8 v6 horsepower?.my engine is healthy but needs more go go bits, so i was thinking of removing the catalytics, new accel distributer/coil.
perhaps roller rockers.if you have improved the stock engine please let me know your results.i,d like to avoid removing engine but maybe in a couple of years ill install high cam and port and install high flow valve.going from 140 hp to 170 or so is all i need.
thanks for reading:cool:

Work on the exhaust system. The rockers are a waste of money with stock cam and heads.

ok

that makes sense.im reading that the original block doesn't lend itself to rebuild for higher performance and just get the camaro v6 to save yourself the effort.however the heads and intake are supposed to be good but if you get the camaro v6 you'll get all the stuff anyway.
my 2.8 runs nice right now so i just want use it up as it were.i have to replace the suspention to tighten it up but im very happy with the condition of the car.
cheers:cool:

There are a couple of things that are cheap to do to get more power. The biggest thing is to take off the exhaust manifolds and port them. From the factory they cut a slot on the exhaust log and attached the ports. If you pull off the exhaust manifold you will see an oval hole inside a round hole. Have the outside re welded to be stronger and port thr inside. This will gain you 5-8hp and improve throttle response. Then remove the "Y" pipe and have an exhaust shop cut the "Y: section out and redo it. GM just crushed the pipes into a D shape and pressed them in. A good exhaust shop will cut out the "Y" and replace it with a better one for around $50. This will add another 3-4hp

Next is to replace the 52mm throttle body with the 55mm version from the Fiero Store ( www.fierostore.com ) This will gain you another 2-3hp if you have ported the exhaust.

For about a 20hp gain you can install the Trueleo intake and exhaust. This will run roughly about $1000 if you want to spend the money. They will also cross over to the 3.4L if you upgrade later. ( www.trueleo.com )

After the above, anything else requires you to go internal of the engine.

FYI - The Fiero came from the factory with a cold air intake already. There is no need to modify it.

I realize this is an old thread but I just brought my stock '88 SE 2.8 out of CA and these are some of my questions also. My main concern is with some or all of these modifications will I need to change out the eccm unit? The car currently runs great (good cyl psi) and passed CA smog. I'm also at 7,000'. I read that the Catco cat converter might help without killing the low end, but can't find one. Also read somewhere that the 2.8's are starving for intake air. The big concern is making this all work together.
