my 2000 has a lot of play in my steering wheel. i know its way out of alignment. but when i pull in my angled curb drive way i hear a clonk from front suspension. it has a little less then 182K on it. so my question is this, are my ball joints end link type stuff shot??? ty in advance

Alice

You have ball joints, tie rod ends, and sway bar all of which can cause a noise when worn or broken.

I had a broken sway bar on my old 2000 that when you hit the right bump it would clonk. Come to think of it I had the same on my 99 buick must be bad batch ??

well it has almost 182 thousand on it too and only paid $100 for it i know ill have issues just nickel n dime u to death lol

make sure you get the front end looked at, it potentially could be very dangerous if a ball joint or tie rod fails.

lol im on full disability, i live on 714 a month. after all my bills im lucky to have 100 a month. which used for gas n needs. cost me $95 just to get a estimate lol.

hey said threw like 14 codes too from miss fire, mass, oc, tps, no fuel pump signals ect. i figure my 100 van gona cost me 9k to fix. if i go to college in january i can use whats left of my pell to fix something but not sure what

sorry for double post but found shop that will inspect it n tell me what it needs and how much will cost

  • both outer tie rods
  • both front hub assemblys
  • both front strut assembly
  • both rear air leveling shocks (dealler part)
  • 2 wheel alignment
about $2000 to $2100 in parts & labor. with only 100 spare money a month, i want to cry.

Boy that does stink ,well I guess you know why it was only $100 but still if you can find a friend or a salvage yard mechanic and maybe some used parts you could fix up cheaply. Always get a second or even third estimate. If you don't need it fixed right away maybe you can find someone to do it on the side??? Good luck keep us posted.

thers a place called Tulsa Tech that has everything from auto service, auto body, medium & heavy duty truck service just to name a few lol. hadn't really thought of that. i want to take one those 3 classes but with a 5 pound weight lifting limit, i just cant do it. i did call auto zone n found parts cheaper. repair shop part quotes where way higher. like just one tie rod part was 120 and auto zone is 20. also auto zone sells air shocks they say will work. below is the price list i found ill contact the Tulsa tech n find out more info though. like cost of a alignment lol.
  • 2x Outer Tie Rods 19.99 each = 39.98
  • 2x Front Hub Assembly 92.99 each = 185.98
  • 2x Front Strut Assembly 163.99 each = 327.98
  • 2x Rear Air Shocks 24.99 each = 49.98

well got new info on my van, basically my outer tie rods and driver side wheel hub assembly. to replace those 3 parts and front alignment will fix my steering. at the Firestone dealer i trust for repairs said it would cost just shy of $800. my finances i have is 200 a month to put at it. im thinking i may have drive it occasionally to get to my dr. appointments while i save for my repairs.

I think that is still high, you can do better and be careful driving,if those tie rods are real bad and break you could end up in a ditch. ~$400 sounds like a target
