Recently my son changed the rear brakes and a mechanic change the front ones on my 2000 Montana. Since then, I have had low pedal pressure and it sounds as though there is air in the line. the resevoir is full. Can the lines be bled easily? A mechanic was $80 - $100 to do this. Also just last night my Service Traction Contral dash light and the TCS Off light came on and when i press the brake pedal my turn signal indicator lights on the dash light up. please help decipher the issue here and if this is something i can take care of without a mechanic. even though i am a female, i do as much work on my own, as mechanics are very expensive these days!

when did the low pedal start, after the mechanic worked on the car or your son? If after the mechanic you can take it back to him if it's within a resonable amount of time, a month. not clear how air in the brake lines would cause a sound. concerning the lights there is a problem with the sensors and unless it's an obvious issue, dirt for instance, the codes have to be looked up in the computer. Autozone may do that for free.

squishy pedal issue was after my son did the back brakes..he said he did not disconnect any lines. the sound i hear when i press the pedal is like a swoosh..(?) and i have to pump them to get good pedal. i just came from auto zone and they said they cannot read those codes..maybe the one i went to does not have the proper equipment.

The lights issue is an easy fix. Theere is a single 6 pin connector for each taillight. All of the lights on each side share a single ground wire. When you hit the brakes and your parking lights are on, and you have your turn signal on, it overloads this single ground wire. Over time the wire heats up and melts the insulation and burns up the connector. You can buy a replacement connector from the dealer or online at rockauto.com or other parts places. About $45 or so. The easy way to tell which side needs replaced is to turn on your headlights, hold the brake pedal down, and turn on the turn signals. Whichever side flashes double fast is the bad connector. I just replaced the drivers side on Friday night. Try to solder and heat shrink the spliced connections, but you could probably get away with just a crimp connection and electrical tape. PM me if you have any further questions. I soldered all mine and took the terminal apart and cleaned it all up and it took me less than an hour.

did your son adjust the brakes after replacing the shoes? did he check if the wheel cylinders were leaking? has he tried bleeding the back brakes?

I agree. I`ve had this problem with my van and all I did to correct this was to bleed the brake system AND adjust the rear shoes.

No offense, but does your son know how to clean the adjusters on the rear brakes? This is vital. Once the brakes are adjusted, they will auto adjust when backing up IF the adjusters have been cleaned.
