Couple weeks ago car started idling really rough and blowing white smoke, checke the oil and it looked like chocolate milk and the coolant was low, so i figured it was a head gasket, tore down to install new head gasket and everything looked fine, no cracks in the head gasket, no signs of coolant getting through, spark plugs all looked fine, just had them and the wires replaced maybe 3 months ago.

Put it all back together and still runs rough, idles fine, step on the gas and there is hesitation but once the rpms come up runs fine. If you let it idle for to long and then touch the gas the car would shut off and be really tough to start, i would have to hold the gas pedal to the floor in order for it to start.

Tonight i went out and it was the same thing so i put some injector cleaner in and let is run and all of a sudden the check engine light started flashing and it was running super rough so i shut it off and checked the codes and its showing code P0300 random misfire.

Not sure where to start and hoping you guys might have an idea.

Car has aprox 193km on it

Thanks

Sorry should of stated 2.2

And i didnt have the head checked, ive never had the car over heat, and the gasket looked totally fine, and could not see anywhere where the coolant could of been getting through,

Little update that i didnt think really was a huge deal but after putting it back together the temp gauge isnt working, done a little bit of reading and read that if the engine coolant temperature sensor is not working it sends a engine cold temperature to the pcm which in turn pumps excss fuel into the engine.

Im hoping this could quite possibly be it, going to try and get one tomorrow and give it a go.

Anyone think it could be this?

maybe..but the car would not be running as bad as you say..you still should have had it checked to make sure the valves are sealing properly...if there not then you would get a "p0300"...the next step, if the temp sensor does not fix the problem is to do a compression test on the motor..

flashing CEL mean cylinder misfire, and It sounds to me like your intake manifold gasket is leaking into the intake runners of the head. This was a common issue with my truck and cause it to hydrolock. Did you inspec the gasket when u put eveything back together, or use new gasket? If so then I would be stumped as to why it is doing this other than maybe a coolant vein is cracked and leaking into the head or combustion chamber, but either way the coolant is mixing with the oil.

always get the head checked. . . some of the cracks could be invisible to the human eye with no other helpers like dyes etc. Also did u set a straight edge on the head cross-section to see if it's warped? I let my truck barely get into the H on my gauge and it cracked and warped my head. along with spit the gasket.
