I recently bought a 2001 Aztek - got a great deal on it so I couldnt say no. Came with a 3-year unlimited bumper to bumper + power train warranty - so i felt pretty safe purchasing it as if something goes horribly wrong, I'm only $100 in the hole for the deductible.

Its a blast to drive & i love the thing.

However there are some things happening that may be linked to the BCM going bad or perhaps its already bad.

Here's my list of concerns:

1. Check engine light is on. Code was for the gas cap. Changed the cap. Light still on. I'm not overly concerned, but its something.

2. Whenever my headlights are on & i go to put my right turn signal on, the high beams come on automatically. Puzzling & annoying.

3. The "AWD Disabled" & "Anti-Lock" warning lights come on together periodically & at complete random. Typically after I shut the car off & turn her back on, this goes away.

4. The "Security" light comes on randomly at startup. Again, I shut her off, turn her back on & the light goes away.

5. Starting yesterday - my "Change Engine Oil" light has come on at startup & will disappear after about 3 minutes until I start her up again & its back on for another 3 minute duration. Checked the oil... its definitely full & does not give the texture of bad oil.

6. Typically first thing in the morning, pulling out, I can feel the ABS pulse when stepping on the brake - giving that slight mechanical whining noise. Then it wont do it again.

Im fairly car smart - having grown up in a racing family - I've been around cars my whole life. But I dont know much about these Azteks so I figured I'd reach out to you guys & see if anyone has had any similar situations & how you went about correcting them.

Also since Pontiac is no more, GM will service the vehicle, correct?

Thanks for the help.

If it's not the cap than you have a leak somewhere in the evaporative control system

Could be a bad switch

have the system scanned for any codes

Scan

Normal

Yes GM will service the vehicle but unless you bought a GM warranty they do not have to honor the 3 year that you say came with the vehicle. Puzzling how someone can give you a 3 year bumper to bumper on a 10 year old vehicle.

The change engine oil light is normal. It goes by mileage and driving habits. It does not sample the oil. In the manual it should say how to reset it.

Sounds like multi issues with BCM and ABS . Seeing you have some kind of warentee contract I would use it asap and get that into the dealer . 100 bucks is a small price to pay say next to fixing these issues yourself which would cost way more then your deductable. Any certifed GM dealer should be able to handle that vehical. I take mine to a Chevy dealer for recalls when needed and never had any issues with them working on a Pontiac.
