Hi,

I own a 2001 Grand Am and have recently encountered a problem that my local mechanic has been unable to rectify.
For the first ten minutes of operation the vehicle runs fine, after that (I'm assuming it has something to do with the car warming up) the transition from one gear to another is very harsh and many times I'm afraid it's going to stall completely.
They've checked sensors, unplugged sensors, changed sensors and every time, ten minutes or so into driving it starts acting up.
If you have any idea what it might be I'd really appreciate your feedback as I'm starting to get really frustrated and my mechanic thinks I'm crazy!!

Thanks
Mike

Does it do it when forced into OPEN LOOP mode? Disconnect the CTS, the Coolant Temp Sensor and see if the problem goes away. If so, lean towards TCC, see below.

I would go visit http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums and search for Viscous Converter Clutch. There is a wealth of info there.

It almost sounds like the TCC is engaging wrong, or staying engaged.

Reconnect CTS. Do you have any problems when the brake pedal is applied very lightly? Enough to trigger the brake lights and not enough to apply the brakes? This would isolate it to the TCC ckt.

Does seem to be a problem w/ computer after warm-up. way too much pressure to convertor.Seems like 427hemipontiac may have you going the right direction.

Hey write back soon and let me know what happened,as this post is so old.
