2001 pontiac aztek temperature gauge stoped working?

A few weeks ago the teperature guage stoped working, but later on the same day it started working again. Friday it stoped working again and has not started back up. The cooling fan stays on after I turn it off for a bit, but there are no signs of overheating that I can see or hear and we drove it all day Friday. All the fluids are full. I see no leaks. It does smoke some, but it has almost 200,000 miles. I thought gasket might be leaking or thermostat issue, but a basic code check came up about a sensor.

Any ideas?

Il suggest to check the thermostat. I had the same problem I've changed the Thermostat then the temperature gauge was back in operations.

Very / replace your thermostat. I've fixed that problem changin the thermostat
